The growing success of the Universities Rugby League Queensland competition
has again been acknowledged, with an array of touring international
teams set to do battle with the cream of the URLQ competition over the
coming month.
A URLQ representative team has been selected to partake in a handful of
curtain raisers for the 2008 Universities World Cup, which will be
staged in Brisbane from July 4-19.
Griffith University’s Nathan campus will be hosting the World Cup
festivities, with eight countries battling it out for the seventh
Students World Cup crown.
With approximately 240 players and staff set to descend on
Griffith’s Nathan campus over the coming weeks, the Universities World
Cup is sure to be one of the highlights of the Australian Rugby
League’s Centenary celebrations.
The select URLQ squad will be coached by Paul Srama, with the
emerging Universities team set to do battle with a Great Britain
Community side at Griffith University’s Nathan campus at 7pm on Friday
July 4.
The URLQ side will then clash with the touring Cambridge University team on Tuesday, July 8 (3pm) and Saturday July 12 (1pm).
